COURSE OVERVIEW
You may get the impression that this course is about taking flash photography to the next level. That it is not. Photography is about manipulating and painting with light, not always using flash. In this course, you will learn to use flash and other simple light sources found around your home, including natural light, to capture wonderful light patterns, dramatic, and glamourous shots. You will learn to control light and make it work the way you want it to.
KNOWLEDGE PREREQUISITES
Expert level knowledge of your camera and flash photography. If unsure, please inquire about your skills and I will let you know if you are adequately equipped for this course.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
A camera and a hot shoe flash are minimum for this course. Please bring other simple lighting tools like flash lights, shop lights, lamps, or anything you can find around your home that produces light. Battery powered light sources are preferred for the offsite portion of this course when painting with light.
COURSE OUTLINE
Because of the amount of time required for everybody to participate in this more interactive workshop, this course will take place in the evenings only and the number of students will also be limited to 6 persons (3 groups of 2). Each of these techniques will require an assistant so please attend with the mindset of interacting and helping your assigned partner.
Because these techniques are extremely time-consuming, only ONE of the techniques below will be offered on any given course day. Students will get the chance to vote for their preferred technique before registering for the course.
Liquid Photography
In this workshop, we will be working with water, lots of water. All of your photography techniques and skills will be pushed to its limits as you need to concentrate on lighting, timing, exposure, and focus to get the best possible image.

Painting with Light
We will head outdoors to try some light painting. We will go through the basics of creating shapes with light and then moving onto using light painting to create dramatic photographs of large objects that would only be possible otherwise using 4-5 flashes and high-dynamic range processing during post-production.
Painting with Water and Light
This is the most complex of all techniques because it requires a coordination and simultaneous magic of light and water to come together to create a wonderful photo effect. Please note that the techniques used in this course will require significant editing in Photoshop to create an incredibly stunning experience. If you prefer not to do any Photoshop work with your photography, then this technique is not for you.
