Low-Key Side Profile, originally uploaded by Melvin Tan.

My first ever side profile lit with a flashlight app from the iPad. I really wanted to achieve a very thin, rim light but using a soft light such as the iPad doesn’t give you a very strong outline.

Because I am always behind the camera, there’s barely any pictures of me. This photo was taken in front of the largest painting at the Intercontinental Hotel. If you look carefully, you can see the infrared remote in my hand triggering the camera.

A portrait of Amanda during our lunch hour walk. There were some technical flaws with this photo, mostly caused by the flash accidentally popping up and firing. But I don’t care, because I like the composition and if I had wanted to, those the problems with the flash can be cleaned up in Photoshop. :)

Some portraiture from a birthday party I attended. These were the best portrait captures from the day. The little girl is super-photogenic and loves the camera. Since I was learning to use a flash anyway, she was incredible cooperative in letting me use her as the subject.
